Konecranes recognised for climate work

CDP has recognised Konecranes for its ambitious climate work. The company has received an A- rating in the CDP’s climate programme and a Leadership ranking (A or A-). The measurement is based on the company’s 2019 disclosure about its actions in the last reporting year to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop the low-carbon economy.

CDP is an international non-profit that drives companies and governments to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, safeguard water resources and protect forests. CDP urges companies and cities to take action in building a truly sustainable economy by measuring their environmental impact.

Mikko Välimaa, vice president for Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (HSEQ) and sustainability at Konecranes said, “We are truly honoured by this recognition, which serves as proof of our commitment to our climate change efforts and more broadly to sustainability. When it comes to climate-related opportunities, we have a unique position to help decarbonize other industries by providing equipment solutions that help our customers and their industries, such as ports, restructure to a low carbon future.

“In 2020 we continued discussions with top management and conducted a set of workshops for all business areas and procurement to define climate-related risks and opportunities on a detailed level. Based on this work, we will sharpen our Climate roadmap for years to come,” Välimaa said.

Future-proofing Konecranes’ business means providing advanced low-carbon and energy-efficient technology in products and services that enable its customers’ shift to a low-carbon future, accelerating circular economy.

Konecranes says that climate action and resource efficiency is one of the five cornerstones of its sustainability work. In addition, it focuses on sustainable offerings and circularity; a safe workplace and products; a diverse, inclusive and engaging workplace; and responsible business conduct. Konecranes has a set of ambitious targets for all five focus areas and regularly monitors performance and progress. Quantifiable climate targets include emission and energy intensity reduction, as well as use of renewable electricity in Konecranes factories.
