Simulator training for challenging container locations
A new training simulator has been launched by CM Labs Simulations that provides advanced training for reachstacker operators. The package includes new exercises featuring complex lifts and different container types.
The company believes that this is the only solution providing exercises for working with challenging container locations within a stack. Containers of 20, 40, and 45ft can be stacked five high in training scenarios, and the reachstacker can reach containers in the second and third rows. Additionally, trainers can create and edit custom task sequences of the most common or most challenging container moves.
Along with over-height, open-top, and liquid containers, operators also learn how to work with intermodal trailers and ITVs.
Using this simulator, operators can experience the effects of unbalanced loads and other causes of machine instability. As a result, they learn the consequences of different manoeuvres, in a controlled training environment.
The solution’s embedded learning exercises are designed to improve operator productivity, by enhancing their ability to drive safely in restricted spaces, as well as teaching the skills required to work with all types of loads under different weather conditions. Options are included for both daytime and nighttime operations.
Flexible solution adapts to terminal needs
When paired with CM Labs’ Instructor Operating Station (IOS), the training pack allows trainers to introduce specific challenges at any time, including overload or uneven load distribution, proximity to personnel, and potholes. The IOS can be installed at a distance from the simulators to comply with safety requirements, or even in an adjacent room.
For objective assessment of pre-screening or evaluation outcomes, the instructor can configure and generate comprehensive reports, with a scoring system that port terminals and training schools can customise to highlight their most important standards, so that new operators can ramp up even faster.
The Reach Stacker Simulator Training Pack can run on any CM Labs ports equipment simulator, including the desktop Vortex Trainer, the motion-enabled Vortex Advantage, and the high-immersion Vortex Master. Thanks to their hot-swappable control capabilities, each simulator can run a full fleet of training packs following the full journey of cargo. This includes STS Crane, Ship Pedestal Crane, Straddle Carrier, Rubber-tyred Gantry, Mobile Harbour Crane, Reach Stacker, Forklift, and more.
The solution’s simulation capabilities are due to the Smart Training TechnologyT that is incorporated in the solution. Smart Training Technology is comprised of CM Labs’ proprietary and patented algorithms and includes real-time simulation features. The result is a training solution that delivers very transferable operator skills.
CM Labs clients include the Port of Tilbury, Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal, Indonesian Port Corporation, Napier Port, Ports of Auckland, multiple DP World sites, the Pacific Maritime Association (USA) and over 100 other world-class companies, OEMs, equipment operators, and trades training organisations.
