Premier Cranes keeps repair on track

Premier Cranes and Rigging was given the task of raising a 134t locomotive off track for an in-situ repair of a 16t truck frame (bogie). It had to carried out with minimal interruption to a functioning yard.

The Premier planning team was given details of a cramped and constricted set up envelope, as the client’s logistical movements needed to remain active. Add to that the requirement to salvage/pick-and-carry the repairable bogie using Premier’s Franna crane with a rigged Superlift.

An initial site visit established all the lift criteria. In-house engineering provided the most efficient solution using 50t nylon slings and a pair of 100t spreader beams. Two cranes with full counterweights suspended the load safely while the support Franna recovered the damaged component and subsequent reattachment of the repaired bogie. There was no major site interruption and a fully operational locomotive was delivered at the end of a long day.

Premier says it is committed to achieving the best outcomes for its clients and overcoming the challenges that each job brings.
